Location and asset tracking

How valuable is your time?

This is often a question that gets frequently overlooked within a lot of business environments. Do you frequently find that you or your staff are searching for common items, tools or machinery? This seems to be a recurring theme in a lot of organisations that in reality would be a relatively easy problem to solve using location tracking technology.

There is often an assumption that location tracking systems have to cost the earth and are therefore often overlooked.

Traditional location and real time location tracking solutions

A lot of traditional Location solutions such as Cisco’s Mobility Services Engine (MSE) or DNA spaces as it is now known rely on the existing WiFi infrastructure to provide this functionality.

The issue with this, is that the density of wireless access points has to be very high and all of these require cabling which in turn requires switches. All of this involves a significant time to deploy which is often not factored into the original project scope.

These solutions will also no doubt include a very complex licensing structure that in many cases means the whole solution becomes unaffordable for most small to medium sized organisations.

The battery powered network

With the ever increasing advancements in technology it is now possible to deploy location based services to your business without running a single Ethernet or power cable. You can now fit a large building that would have originally needed hundreds of individual cable runs and a project spanning weeks or months from a design phase to live within a matter of days.

These networks are hugely powerful, allowing two way communications and also utilising built in sensor technologies to provide live alerting information about what the physical asset you are monitoring is currently doing.

You can tell whether it is currently moving, hasn’t moved for months, or is even moving above a certain speed.

The technology behind it all

Historically most solutions would rely on WiFi, Bluetooth low Energy (BLE), RFID or even in some cases LoRaWAN.

All of these are still relevant, but they also have their limitations.

Using the latest advancement in wireless mesh technologies we can now deploy network infrastructure that will last up to 10 years before the batteries will need replacing. Oxspring Network Solutions and their Tagscout platform do not rely on any of the above, but can still use them if the use case dictates it.

Tagscout

Tagscout is a product developed by Oxspring Network Solutions. It is a powerful software platform that covers multiple use cases across various industries. These include but are not limited to:

  • Healthcare
  • Warehousing, Transport and Logistics
  • Environmental monitoring
  • Buildings Control and Automation
